CASE STUDY

The Challenge

The Chief Data Office (CDO) Data Governance team of a U.S.-based Global Systemically Important Bank (G-SIB) released an updated Data Policy accompanied by a structured, two-year, three-phase compliance schedule. To support the successful execution of this policy, they needed to align it with a well-defined set of data management capabilities, enabling the development of a practical roadmap for phased implementation. Additionally, there was a critical need for a formal, evidence-based mechanism to track and monitor compliance across both Enterprise and Business Unit operating levels. This mechanism needed to be robust enough to support internal and external audit requirements, with a particular focus on satisfying regulatory expectations under BCBS 239.

What we did

  • Conducted a global capability assessment using the EDM Council’s DCAM® framework

  • Developed a comprehensive Knowledge Model integrating the bank’s Data Policy & Standards, DCAM, and the EDM Council’s BCBS 239 Model

  • Performed a structured challenge review of business unit artefacts to validate and evidence assessment scores

Key Results Achieved

  • Clear, actionable Data Policy compliance roadmaps at the business unit level

  • A sustainable and regulatory-aligned approach to building long-term Data Management capability

  • A transparent, measurable compliance framework that supports effective audit conversations and demonstrates progress against BCBS 239
